African Studies is a broad-ranging field that is committed to an interdisciplinary approach to the study of African peoples and their complex histories, cultures, and languages. The African Studies Minor stands at the center of undergraduate curriculum in African Studies. However, there are other opportunities to learn about and travel to the continent, including study abroad, Rice 360, Beyond Traditional Borders, internal and external research grants, to name a few.
We encourage all students interested in African Studies at Rice to subscribe to the African Studies Minors listserv to keep informed about events and deadlines related to the study of Africa. Students may also subscribe to the Houston Area African Studies Group (HAASG) listserv for details about African Studies events at other Houston and Texas institutions.
